Sailing Log

9-10-2008 - Practice - After procrastinating for a few months, I finally got around to fixing the tiller extension (cutting off the old messed up part with a hacksaw, filing it down, buying the replacement rubber bit, buying some rivets, borrowing a rivet tool from a friend, assembling the whole thing, and taping it up). I made it out to the lake after a long day at work. The water is a LOT lower than it was back in June! Only made one rigging mistake - forgot to put in the battens, so I had to take the sail back down. Then I headed out and just cruised around for a while. There were the usual Wednesday night races going on, but I was feeling way too rusty to get that close to a bunch of other boats. Decent wind, no capsizes. Got maybe 40 minutes on the water.

6-1-2008 - Fun - Joe and I headed out to the lake to celebrate the first day of hurricane season! Spent a while trying to remember how to rig the boat, and eventually figured it out. Joe took the boat out for a bit, then after he practiced the capsize drill a few times I joined him and we zipped around for a while. Towards the end, the tiller extension snapped off - I wasn't too surprised, as the rubber connector was already in pretty bad shape when I originally got the boat.
